About

At the Dawson College Library our goal is to help students succeed!

As a core academic and student service, we strive to support the research, resource and information literacy needs of students and faculty members, working in all programs and disciplines offered at Dawson College.

Our staff is at your service

We take our role as educators to heart, and contribute every day to the intellectual, social and personal growth of the community we serve. These are the core values defined in the Dawson College Mission Statement, and we do all we can to uphold them in our service.

Every member of the library works hard to ensure smooth, timely, and equitable access to library resources and support. From the Circulation Desk staff who checkout your books, laptops, and course Reserves; the Reference Librarians who help you navigate the challenges of academic research; to our staff behind the scenes in Technical Services (who purchase and catalogue all of our materials, and maintain the library’s systems): we are all committed to providing the best service we can.

Our door is open. Come visit us and see all we have to offer…

Space for learning & meeting

Our physical space is awe-inspiring! The library sits at the heart of the college, and is privileged to occupy two wings of the sixth floor, as well as the beautiful high-domed chapel. There are individual and group study spaces for more than 500 students. In addition to our collections, we are well-equipped with the tools students need to meet their academic goals, such as networked computers, wireless internet access, printers, photocopiers and print account charging stations. Visit our Facilities page for more detailed information.

Our collection

We are continually developing our collection to support all programs and disciplines offered at Dawson College. Every member of our community has access, both on and off campus, to industry-leading electronic reference, eBook, and periodical collections, as well as a physical collection of more than 70,000 print and audiovisual materials. Visit our Resources page to see (and access) our full range of offerings, or use our Discovery Service to search all of our resources at once.

Reference support

Dawson’s Reference Librarians are always available to help students and faculty members find the resources they need, teach them how to search efficiently, and answer all manner of questions about library and college resources. A librarian can always be approached in-person at the Reference Desk (6C, ex. 1731), contacted through our Ask-a-Librarian chat service, or reached individually by phone or email.

Library & information literacy instruction

In a rapidly changing, and increasingly complex world, developing the ability to locate, evaluate and effectively use information (a.k.a. Information Literacy) is not only a critical skill for academic excellence, it is a life skill for future success enabling students on the path towards lifelong learning.

If you are a faculty member, you can schedule an in-class library instruction session, using our online Library Instruction Request form. Sessions are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, so we advise you to book early!
