Library Protocol

The Dawson College Library strives to provide a safe and welcoming space for all students to study and gather. To this end, we ask for your collaboration in upholding the following standards in the Library.

CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS

  • Please treat every individual in the Library with courtesy, consideration, and respect.
  • Please contribute to a quiet atmosphere to avoid disturbing others:
    • In the Chapel and on the balconies, please silence devices and keep conversation to a minimum.
    • In collaborative spaces, including group study rooms, please speak softly.

RESPECT FOR LIBRARY MATERIALS & SPACES

  • Please do not deface, damage, inappropriately use, or deliberately deprive other users of library materials, facilities, or equipment.
  • Please do not highlight, underline, or write inside Library books (or on tables, walls, chairs…)
  • Please keep spaces clean and dispose of garbage in the containers provided.

FOOD AND BEVERAGES

  • Please do not eat inside the Library: food attracts pests and may damage books or equipment.
  • Beverages with secure lids are permitted.
  • If you make a mess, please clean it up. If you cannot, please advise a staff member.

SAFETY & SECURITY

  • The use of Library spaces is prioritized for registered students and members of the community.
  • Please be prepared to show your identification to any member of the Library staff upon request.

NON-COMPLIANCE

  • Failure to uphold these standards will result in a verbal request to correct the behaviour or problem.
  • If the behaviour or problem persists, a staff member will ask for your name and student ID and refer the matter to the appropriate College authority for follow-up.
  • In serious cases – e.g., overt disrespect towards a staff member or fellow student – Security will be called and you will be asked to leave the Library.

All disciplinary cases will be addressed in accordance with the Dawson College Code of Conduct.
