Industry Information
NAICS is the classification system used by several resources, including Statistics Canada, in searching for information based on industry. Use this site to find the NAICS code for an industry by entering a keyword in the search box. Then use the code to find business articles, industry overviews, market reports and statistics.
This tool, provided by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, allows access to more than 1000 industries across Canada, including more than 30 performance benchmarks to help small businesses determine how they measure up to their competitors. You can view financial data based on industry averages, with an option to include your own income statement and balance sheet information in the report or simply download existing popular reports from various sectors.

Provided by the Government of Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service, this site offers more than 200 reports with analysis of specific industry sectors geared toward commercial activities in export markets. Get market insights and exporting-related information by industry sector or country of interest. The reports are free but you are required to register with MyTCS.
Maintained by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, Trade Data Online (TDO) provides statistics on the international trade of goods as a way of assisting entrepreneurs with import/export markets. With TDO you can determine what products countries are importing, exporting or re-exporting throughout the world as well as obtain a country’s trade balance.
Maintained by the International Trade Center, the Trade Map provides – in the form of tables, graphs and maps – indicators on export performance, international demand, alternative markets and competitive markets, as well as a directory of importing and exporting companies. Trade Map covers 220 countries and territories and it is searchable by product name using the HS (Harmonized System) product classification.
Through UN Data brings, users can search and download a variety of statistical resources compiled by the United Nations (UN) statistical system and other international agencies. The numerous databases or tables collectively known as “datamarts” contain over 60 million data points and cover a wide range of statistical themes including agriculture, crime, communication, development assistance, education, energy, environment, finance, gender, health, labour market, manufacturing, national accounts, population and migration, science and technology, tourism, transport and trade.
The World Development Indicators is a compilation of internationally-comparable statistics about global development and the fight against poverty. The database contains 1,600 time series indicators for 217 economies and more than 40 country groups, with data for many indicators going back more than 50 years.
