The space can accommodate more than 500 students, and offers access to computers, wi-fi, printers, photocopiers and many other useful resources.
The Academic Skills Centre is also located inside the Library (2nd floor, end of the 6D wing).
Computers
There are 110 computers available for student use in the library.
All of the library’s computers are loaded with Microsoft Office, and give students access to their personal storage space on the college computer network (the “H:” drive).
Student work should always be saved to the “H:” drive or a personal storage device. Any documents ‘saved’ in the user’s folder, or on the Desktop, will be erased when the user logs out, or if the session times out.
These computers are intended for research and coursework. Computer games, Facebook and other social networking activities are not permitted at times of high demand.

Laptops
The library has 24 laptops that are available to students for short-term loan, within the library. These laptops are kept at the Circulation Desk, just inside the library doors.
- Registered students, with fines under $5.00, may borrow a laptop.
- New users must sign a registration and liability form to receive a laptop.
- Students must present a valid I.D. card each time a laptop is borrowed. This I.D. card must belong to the borrower, and not to a friend or another student.
- Laptops may be borrowed for 3 hours, for use in the library only. Only one laptop may be borrowed per student, and time cannot be extended.
- Laptops must be returned to the Circulation Desk, in-person, within three hours of checkout.
- Due times are established at the time of loan.
- A fine $10 per hour will be applied if a laptop is returned past the time it is due.
- Never leave the laptop unattended! If a laptop is stolen or damaged, you are responsible for the full cost of replacement or repair, and your library borrowing privileges will be suspended.
- No personal software or programs may be loaded onto the laptops.
- Do not attempt to plug in a laptop with your own power adapter as this will damage the battery and the laptop.
Photocopiers
There are two (2) photocopiers in the library. They are located on the 5th Floor, under the stairs leading up to the second level. Both machines will accept cash, a Dawson ID card or a cash card. Cash cards can be purchased in the 2C wing (just outside the Printshop), or one can be borrowed from the Circulation Desk for single transactions. (One of the photocopiers allows you to add money to your ID card or cash card, if needed.)
The cost to photocopy is 10 ¢ / page for black and white copies, and 40 ¢ / page for colour copies.
Note: These photocopiers will also print colour copies of files in PDF format, directly from your USB key.

Printing
Yes! There are four (4) public printers in the library. Printing is a multi-step process and can be done from any library computer or from your own device.
The cost for black & white printing is 10¢ per page, and 50¢ per page for colour.

Printing from a library computer
Step 1: Send your document to a “LibraryQ-” printer
- From the list of available printers, select one beginning with the prefix “LibraryQ-“.
(You may need to click “See more” to display them all.) - Click “Print” to send your job.
Step 2: Go to the Print Release Station on the 5th floor.
- Sign in to the release station of the printer you selected (5C1P, 6DP, or 5C1P-Colour).
- Select your print job(s) on the screen and click the button to release.
- Your document will print to the adjacent printer.
Printing from your own device
Step 1: Sign in to the PCounter
- Go to https://print.dawsoncollege.qc.ca
- Sign in using your student ID number and network password
- Upload your document(s) one at a time
Step 2: Send your document to the LibraryQ
- Select a printer from the list: LibraryQ-5C1P, LibraryQ-5C1P-COLOUR, LibraryQ-6CP or LibraryQ-6DP
- Click “Print” to send your job to the selected printer
Step 3: Go to a Print Release Station
- Follow posted instructions for how to release your document. Your job will stay in the queue for up to 24 hours. Your document(s) will not print until you release it.

It bypasses the LibraryQ, so must be selected directly from the list of available printers.

There is a print balance charging stations one each level of the library. The 5th floor station is at the end of the Circulation Desk, across from the Library entrance. The 6th floor charging station is behind the standing work stations, in the far right corner of the Reference Area at the top of stairs.
To add money directly to your print balance, login to the terminal using your student ID number and network password. Insert your money in the coin collector attached to the terminal. When the money you inserted registers as “available,” type the amount you want to add, and click “Transfer” (not “Finish”). The money will be added to your account, and be immediately available to you.
Credit Card Purchase
If you do not have cash, but you do have a credit card, you can add money to your print balance inside Omnivox. Look for the link to Print Balance Account in the left-hand menu, and click the link to access the payment form. The minimum charge is $5.00 and your updated balance is immediately available for printing.

Study Spaces
Quiet/Individual Study
The 6D wing is reserved for quiet, individual study. This area contains 60 private study carrels, as well as 40 networked computer stations.The Chapel area of the library, including 6th floor balcony, provides individual study carrels for more than 100 students, though it is not possible to ensure quiet in this space.
Likewise, an additional 32 private study carrels are distributed through the General Collection, along the 6E wing.
Group Study
The 6E wing of the library is equipped with 19 group study tables, with space for 4 or more students at each table (+/-80 seats).There are also 5 group study rooms:
- 6C.1 & 6C.3: one table, seating for 3-5 people
- 6E.2 (midway down 6E corridor): 3 tables (varying sizes)
- 6E.3 (end of 6E corridor): 3 tables
- 6E.4 (end of 6E corridor): 6 tables
The two single-group study rooms – 6C.1 & 6C3 – may be reserved: Reserve a Study Room.
Tables in the multi-group study rooms are available on a first, first served basis.
